Momentum Barrier Fluid MP53

The Momentum Engineered Systems MP53 aligns with pump seal Plan 53. It supplies a liquid barrier fluid to the dual seal assembly at a higher pressure than the seal chamber.

Our barrier seal reservoirs are built to ASME Section VIII standards and we have ASME “U” code stamps available. Our team provides custom and standard barrier fluid reservoirs that are up to API 682 Seal Code.

MP53A

MP53A supplies a liquid barrier fluid to the dual seal assembly at a higher pressure than the seal chamber. Aside from the pressure different, this unit is very similar to our MP52 model.

MP53B

Our MP53B unit supplies an external barrier fl­uid pressurized by a bladder accumulator. This sends clean barrier ­fluid to the dual seal at a pressure greater than the seal chamber.

MP53C

The external barrier ­fluid is pressurized by a piston accumulator and supplies clean barrier fl­uid to the dual seal at a pressure greater than the seal chamber.

How Does a Pressurized Barrier Fluid Reservoir Work?

A pressurized external barrier fluid reservoir forces circulation of a clean fluid to a pressurized dual mechanical seal. The pressurized fluid lubricates the inner and outer seal faces. Keeping the barrier fluid 25 to 30 psi above the seal chamber pressure ensures lubrication of the inboard seal faces.

The Plan 53 Reservoir can be equipped with level, pressure and temperature instrumentation to provide real-time process feedback on mechanical seal health.
